7 calling cards terms and options
We all buy calling cards and then whine or brag about this card or that card.
Today I’m going to explain to you 7 calling cards terms and options that you should have at your finger tip before you buy your next card.
Knowing these 7 terms will differentiate
If you are going to be the consistent whiner – Oh the minutes are gone, what a bad card and ….
Or whether you are going to be the expert and brag it all, men! I just stayed two hours on a $5 dollar phone card…
You should be familiar with the following 7 terms:
1. Local and Toll free access number. 2. PIN Number. 3. Connection fee. 4. Permanent PIN - rechargeable PIN – refillable PIN. 5. PIN-Free Access. 6. Maintenance fee. 7. Rounding.
Local access number.
This is the number you will use to access the calling card services. In most cases this number will be free if you call from a particular region. You will be charged a small fee if you attempt to access your card services out of the specified region/area.
Just like a local access number a toll free number will enable you to access your phone card services. You will be charged a small fee when you use a toll free number. This is cheaper and you will save a few cents instead of using a local access number when you are making a call away from the specified region/area.
When you use a toll free number, you will still be charged per the regular calling card rates plus the small toll free charge.
Pin Number.
This is number you will be provided with as soon as you buy a phone card. Is used by your phone card services to identify your card and credit you with the right minutes and charges.
Connection fee.
This is a fee that you will be charged as soon as your call goes through. Many calling cards will not charge you this fee. But be aware that some cards still charge this fee. A connection fee will reduce the amount of minutes you will be able to stay connected on a phone.
Permanent PIN - rechargeable PIN – refillable PIN
This is an efficient way of managing your cards.
No need to remember, write down or memorize a given set of pin numbers. The first time you buy a given card you are provided with it’s PIN, subsequent purchase of the same card will be credited to the same PIN.

This feature can also be combined with Web call. In this case you enter the contact numbers of the person you want to call and then save them. When you are want to call them, all you do is log into your account and press call. Read more about web call here.
Maintenance fee.
This is the part that you will want to pay close attention to. Different calling cards services will charge you different rates, some will not charge you at all.
This fee can eat up your minutes and before you know it all your minutes are gone without even placing a call. Here is an example of how you might be charged this fee:
• As soon as you place a call. • Each day – duration of 24 hours. • Weekly or bi-weekly. • No fee, but high rates per minute.
Rounding.
This is the unit that measures the duration of a phone call. Most phone card services will charge and round a call in I second, 30 seconds or 1,2, or 3 minutes. Be sure to check how you will be charged based on rounding.
Here is a quick guide to help you out.
